Trust In Psalms-1

Blessed Trust

Ps 2:12 -blessed are all they that put their trust in him

To put one’s trust in God is to make him his refuge; his protection, providing safety. The blessings of putting one’s trust in God are many but one that is inherent in the word itself is that of safety. God is a rock, a refuge, a high tower, a shelter… To put your trust in him therefore, is to run to Him… for safety. It is like the cities of refuge that the manslayer runs to in order not to fall into the hands of the avenger of blood. In the city of refuge, he is sure of life and safety as long as his case is right.

But there is something of note also about this trusting in God. It is something that must be done precipitately. It is running almost thoughtlessly and carelessly to the LORD. It carries a sense of confidence, boldness  and much assurance.

In doing what is right or just, we should be confident. It should not be done with fear or doublemindedness. Upon ascertaining that the cause is just, we plunge in with recourse only to God and not any man.

Such trust brings about much joy and rejoicing. Joy itself has a sense of confidence in something that brings about a pleasant feeling. The reason for this joy and rejoicing is because God is the sure defense for His people. God’s people being safe and secure are eternally shouting for joy. This is the eternal blessedness of those who trust in God.

Can this be a present experience of believers? Can one rejoice in God’s protection in the midst of wickedness? How can one actively and continually place his trust in God for this blessedness and joy?
