Text: Psalm 119:57-64

Key Verse- Lord, you are my share in life; I have promised to obey your words vs 57 NCV

The fan bases of many of the European league football clubs keep growing and they can be indeed fanatical. I am not sure they own any shares in those clubs, yet they make sacrifices. They can go to any length to support or watch matches- even at midnight. Some even go as far as travelling to watch their chosen club’s ‘special’ matches in certain countries. But what is their share?

The Psalmist identifies as also belonging to a club. It is a group of friends of those who obey God. He is whole heart committed to obeying God vs 58; he considers his ways and adjusts so as to obey God vs 59; he does not hesitate to do what God wants vs 60; even when he is left with nothing, he will still obey God vs 61; when it is not convenient, he will rise to praise God vs 62; he belongs to an accountability group to keep him in the path of obedience vs 63.

Unlike the fans’ clubs of this world, his motivation is that the LORD is his share vs 57. Like Peter, when Jesus asked his disciples, after everyone left, “Do you want to go away as well?”, he said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God” Jn 6:68. Peter, like the Psalmist, has settled down with the LORD because He alone satisfies and is sufficient. No wonder, he served the LORD so sacrificially- to the point of death.

Have you found the LORD satisfying? Are His ways pleasant to your soul? Is He your portion forever? Are you in the Loyal Followers’ Club?

Prayer- Let my heart find satisfaction in you, O LORD, that your Word may be my guide. Amen!
