Text: Psalm 119:105-112
Key Verse: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path vs 105
This verse paints a picture of the world in which the Psalmist and all of us are living in. It is a world of darkness. This is the reason he constantly needed light by day and by night. The light is the light of the word of God- to guide his steps (affairs) throughout the day because the world is full of evil and dangers. The Apostle John also had that understanding, he said, “We know that we belong to God, but the Evil One controls the whole world.” ERV 1 John 5:19-20. How possibly can one survive trying to be on his own- not aligning to the ruler of the world or God? Those who think they are neutral are deceived- they are under the control of Satan!
Why do we need God’s uninterrupted light (word)?
- The world is full of affliction vs 107- There are the natural ones but we are mainly concerned about suffering in the hands of evil people.
- We are always endangered in the world vs 109 To be Godly always puts us at risk!
- Wicked men always set traps for us vs 110. You’d better be watchful!
Therefore, the Psalmist and us must be steadfast in our commitment to the word which is our guide. “I will keep my solemn promise to obey your just instructions” vs 106; “I have decided to obey your laws until the day I die” vs 112.
Have you made such a strong commitment to keep the word of God in your own life? Do you think the world is not as bad as it is painted, so you don’t need to go that far in your commitment? To not know the truth about how evil the Evil one is and everything under his control is his work of deception at play.
Prayer– Open my eyes to the truth of life around me. Help me to always seek your word as guide to navigate through life experiences and challenges.
