On the highway

Text: Psalm 119: 1-8

Key verse: How I wish I could be more faithful in obeying your laws! ERV

Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! NLT

This is the sincere heart cry of the Psalmist and many Saints- to be established, consistent and steady in obeying and following the ways of the LORD. We may give reasons for our inconsistencies in following God- we live in an imperfect world, no situation is permanent, nobody is perfect etc. But this Psalm challenges us, it presents the blessedness of the undefiled (faultless) vs 1, who do no wrong, or turn away from God vs 3. Those who attain to this state are blessed.

The real reason we stray or are inconsistent is because of own desires and lusts even. While we do not encourage disobedience or endorse living lives that do not glorify God, we must acknowledge that we have not arrived yet. And though we may fall or fail, we shall not remain in that state but shall rise again. Amen!

This prayer reveals that God’s standard (described in seven ways) remains steadfast and perfect. His expectations of us are high, Therefore, He calls us to walk in the ‘highway’- And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein Is 35:8.

How have you been faring in the way? May the LORD direct your ways that you will be thoroughly aligned with Him.

Prayer– Lord Jesus, you are the perfect One, help me to walk as you walked- in obedience to the Father. Amen
