Part 2
I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ 1 Corinthians 1:4 KJV
We have seen the picture of God’s grace illustrated in the life of David. God who is gracious has displayed this attribute since the creation of the world and man. All His works are done out of the abundance of His grace. Therefore, we wish to study first Corinthians further to see: i. What God’s grace has called us into ii. What it calls us to become iii. Who this grace is extended to iv. The choice of grace and v. The gift of grace.
The Fellowship of His Son vs 9– God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. NIV
The word ‘fellowship’ means partnership, communion, sharing, companionship and friendship. Usually when we think of partnership or any of these words, we think of what either party could contribute to make the partnership work. But the sense of the fellowship of Christ to which we are called is that Christ is benefactor and we are the beneficiaries. He provides and gives all and we receive all. “And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” Jn 1:16 KJV. He has called us to be partakers of His fulness. His fulness is sufficient for all that we could ever need to live in His Kingdom. Whatever the need that may arise in the life of a believer, Christ is sufficient to meet that need.
In the parable of the king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son, those who were invited came to partake of what had already been prepared. They did not have to come with their own food and drinks and even wedding clothes. All had been made ready Matthew 22:1-14. All they needed to do was to come and freely enjoy what had been provided. This the fellowship of His Son that we have been called to partake of. Everything that we need for life and godliness have been given to us through the knowledge of Christ 2 Pet 1:3.
Specifically, what awaits those who are called into the fellowship of His Son? In many passages of Scriptures we observed that it is to His glory we are called to participate 2Pet 1:3; 1Pet 5:10; Jn 1:14. This glory is something that we shall share with Him both now and in eternity. The manifestation of this glory now is not totally the same with the eternal glory. But His glory consists of the following (but is not limited to):
- The physical brightness by which God reveals Himself to men- God is able to impart such brightness on His children at some point in their lives. Acts 6:15; 2Cor 3:7
- The power, might, strength by which God performs wonderful works through His servants. Rom 15:19; 2 Cor 4:7
- The wisdom and knowledge that God imparts to His servants to reveal His mind and establish His counsels or thwart the plans of the evil one. Acts 6:10; Eph 3:10
- The beauty of Character that adorns the doctrine of God Titus 2:10; Heb 12:10, 14
- The riches/ wealth of His grace by which the needs of His saints are fully satisfied. Phil 4:19
What eternity holds in store cannot be imagined by the most brilliant mind. The glory that shall be revealed in the saints is unfathomable. God is faithful, He will fulfil His promise so that as we have shared in the glory of Christ on earth, we shall share in the glories of the coming King.
