Who hath bewitched you?

O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? Gal 3:1 KJV

Today, there is so much sophistry among preachers by which many are being misled from the simplicity that is in Christ. Just like the Galatian church was bewitched- that is, they were fascinated by some new appealing and reasonable teachings. They did not uphold simple faith and obedience to Christ. They became fascinated by the idea that they could do something to complete the work of Christ and so gain and establish their righteousness. This is the problem with the old nature which always wants to have something to boast about. It does not want to give all the credit to God.

Some smooth talking liars  with big titles parade themselves as servant of the Word but they are hypocritical liars whose intention is to draw men away to themselves and make gain out of them. They coin out all kinds of mysterious experiences that cannot be proven in the Word of God. They make living and walking in the Spirit something that is subjective, uncommon and unrelatable by believers. They make money the price for higher experiences in Christ and the substance for obtaining favor with God. The proof of acceptance by God is reduced to what the world has to offer. Their fruits result in hatred for men and the constant desire to push others down to get up.

Who is bewitching you? Who are you following? The Berean church always rebukes our tendency toward slackness and waywardness. Even though they received the Gospel first from the mouth of the Apostle Paul, yet they went privately to search if the things he taught were true. For us today, the word of the man of God, a self-acclaimed Apostle or Prophet etc is sacrosanct. Many are comfortable to listen to the tales of the travels of the Pastor- his adventures, his achievements are the things that motivate and inspire us and not the truth of God. We find it convenient to hear jokes in the church and not a little time of solitude with the Scriptures of truth that leads to obedience. What danger we have exposed ourselves to? May the LORD show us mercy.
