Battles Within Series 5

Thoughts

2Cor 10: 5

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ…”

Where does disobedience come from? What makes it difficult for children of God to obey God? Whereas we have been regenerated, our sins forgiven and we are now reconciled to God, yet many children of God still struggle with obedience to God. The Apostle Paul helps us to see that the cause of disobedience is right within ourselves.

Many thoughts may run through our minds that are not subject to the law of God; those thoughts tend toward the things that we want and of this world. Sometimes when God gives an instruction, immediately our thoughts switch into action and begin to contend with the Word of God. Pictures, according to our flesh, of what might happen if we obey God will immediately flash and flood the mind. Usually the result is fear of our thoughts’-own-realities. If this situation persists, the thought becomes very strong in the mind because it has taken hold of it; that is what a stronghold is.

Some Christian ladies have fears about marriage, mothers-in-law, pregnancy and other life related matters. Some of these were formed because of certain experiences they grew up with or what they were told by people they respected. They have come to accept those things despite the promises of God in Scriptures. This is the battle in the lives of some dearly loved sisters.

What is the remedy to this problem? Faith in God and a renewal of mind. We must believe God for who He says He is and let His Word renew our thoughts. New thoughts patterned after the Word of God must form in us and settle there. The Word also must mix with faith so that it will bear the right fruits.
