God is able

And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Rom 4:21

God is not limited in power, He reigns over all, he calls things that do not exist as though they were. When He called forth the lights, the stars and the earth and everything that now is to reality it was as if they were kept somewhere. That is the creative ability of God.

When we are faced with certain realities of life we sometimes doubt the ability of God regarding His promises. We walk by sight, wishing to see before we believe the Word of God whereas He wants us to believe before we see the manifestation of His promises.

There is nothing God cannot do. He turns a wilderness into a pool of water.  The man who heard the prophecy of Elisha doubted so much because of the prevailing circumstances, but God had said, “By this time tomorrow…” However, he responded, “Even if God opens the window of Heaven…”, it can never happen. He saw it but did not partake of it. God did it without his help.

God is able to bring to light what is not.

Again, God is able to do what He has promised. The deadness of Abraham’s body and that of Sarah notwithstanding. God had spoken and will not relent. It seems the deadness of their bodies was a good condition for life to spring forth. For except a corn of wheat falls down and dies, it abides alone but when it dies it brings forth much fruit. For God, deadness is not a bad situation, it is the best condition for God to work. It does not matter what the circumstance is, God is able to change that situation.

When we look at the condition of the unreached peoples of the world, we wonder whether anything good can come out of those nations. They are dead in idolatry and dead religions without hope. But God who brings life out of the dead is the same today. He is able to raise a generation for Himself among these nations that are lost in sin and ignorance of Him.

God asked Jeremiah to buy a field, a land, even though God had said, the land would go into captivity Jer32:17-27. It did not seem sensible that the land will be destroyed and the nation would go into captivity and yet Jeremiah was to buy a land. It would seem he was throwing away his money.

When God asked Moses to go and deliver the nation of Israel from Egypt, things did not go as Moses had expected. He came to a point when Moses said, since the day you sent me to Pharaoh, the problem of the people have increased and you, God, have not delivered the people. It seemed everything was going in the reverse and not in the direction Moses had expected. But we all know the story and its end. God did deliver His people and destroyed the armies of Egypt.

God is not God if He is limited to what is possible with men. If all that God can do is what a man can do, then He cannot be God. God, even, will not do what men can do. He only does wondrous things that men may fear before Him. Praise the Lord.

What shall we do?  Abraham trusted God. He hoped against hope. He believed God when it was impossible to believe Him. He will help us to trust Him when  things are contrary to our own thinking and ways. What He said in the day, He is still holding in the night. What He said before the storm, He still holds in the storm.

May we continue to look to Him who promised and His able to bring it to pass.
