Heb 6:18-19 NIV
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. (Numb 23: 13-20)
Balak was not satisfied with Balaam’s response so he tried to manipulate God. He brought Balaam to another side of the mountain perhaps he would be able to curse the people of Israel. There is a tendency for us to want to manipulate God by claiming God said when He had not spoken.
A boy fell into a pond and the mother was so persuaded the boy would be kept by God in the pond. She kept telling people who came to her house to ‘mourn’ that the boy would be kept by God. Eventually the boy died, but she kept holding to the fact that God was able to keep the boy. When the news came that the body of the boy had been brought out of the pond, we were all shattered. As humans again, we began asking, ‘Why, Lord?’ But the death of the boy has not changed the fact that God is God and true. If God wanted the boy to live, no matter how long he remained in the pond he would have been brought out alive. When things don’t go our way, it does not mean that God has changed or lied, the real issue is did God say expressly say He would do it?
Many times we excite people by saying that the Lord said. It is common for men of God to prophesy saying that God said something so that the hope of the people of God are raised but eventually those things don’t come to pass. There is a difference between claiming the Word of God and God speaking to us. There is a difference between a Pastor ‘prophesying’ and people claiming it and God speaking. It is impossible for God to change His mind. When God promises, He will not change His mind about fulfilling that promise. If God says He is for you He will not change.
We can stand against ourselves even though God has made a firm promise concerning the same issue. God cannot force His plans on us if we are not willing, but if we agree with Him, He will bring to pass the thing He has spoken to us either by the Spirit or by His Word.
God speaks. Our God speaks. Many times we speak to God in prayer but without response. Yet God speaks. We need to be more attentive and come with expectation to hear Him. When He speaks, may we believe Him. He will not say what we can accomplish by ourselves, but we need to believe when He speaks to us. He speaks beyond our imaginations therefore we must have faith to appropriate His Word.
